Freckleface Strawberry = Ahhhhmazing

There's something magical about sitting in a darkened theatre on Broadway.  The stage lights up, the first notes are played, and you become enraptured.  Growing up in NYC I never had a backyard, but I did get to experience the lights and glamor of Broadway and I can't wait to get to share these experiences with my daughter.

I was fortunate enough to have received tickets to see the Off-Broadway play Freckleface Strawberry based on the book by Julianne Moore of the same name.  I can't say enough good things about Freckleface Strawberry!  It's set at an elementary school where a cast of characters (nerd, popular girl, ballet girl, class clown, jock etc) all make fun of poor Strawberry because of her red hair and freckles.  Eventually Strawberry realizes that she is proud to be who she is and her classmates appreciate her differences.

This play has such a strong and positive message about how to cope with bullying and how to celebrate each other's differences.  Older kids, and even adults, will be able to connect with the deeper message of this story.  Younger kids will be enthralled with the music, sets and humor because dang is it funny!  I went with another teacher that I work with and we were thinking that it would make a fantastic field trip.

Ok so let's talk logistics.  I mentioned to my cousin Nicole that she should take her 2.5 year old daughter Daniella to go see the play and she was worried about her sitting for so long.  Here's the best part it's only 70 minutes long!  The theatre is very small and there were tons of kids so you don't need to worry about your little ones bothering anyone.  Freckleface Strawberry is showing at New World Stages which features an outdoor cafe and places to grab a quick bite.  And more importantly the price is right, using this discount code (FSBOOK810) you can get tickets as low as $35.  It could make a really great Christmas present.

So if you live within driving distance of New York City or are planning to be in the area, why not snag some tickets to go see Freckleface Strawberry?  If you do let me know how you like it and I'd be more than happy to publish your post.  You can get tickets by clicking any of the above links or by visiting

In keeping with FTC regulations I did receive 2 complimentary tickets to see Freckleface Strawberry the musical so that I could provide my honest opinions.  The views expressed in this post are my own and have not been influenced in anyway now stop reading the fine print and go get yourself some tickets.
