I have an unpopular opinion about apparel with characters on it. I think it's super tacky. I cringe when I see kids decked out in T-shirts with princesses on them or when there room looks like Rapunzel threw up in it. I realize that I'm probably in the minority here and I totally renig when it's a kid who is actually asking for the stuff, but generally I hate crap with characters plastered all over it.
My mother, on the other hand does not share my sentiments. Bathing suits with Sleeping Beauty, towels with Minnie Mouse, pajamas with Cinderella and it makes me want to vom. I know she's just being nice and she helps us out so much, but once she brought me a big Minnie and Mickie yard decoration for Halloween and I brought the hammer down. Toys I don't mind, but unless she's asking for a specific character adorned outfit, which she hasn't because she doesn't care, if you see her in it...I didn't buy it.

LOL! I have long ago given up on trying to get my kids to wear outfits which I think are nice so enjoy it while you get to pick her clothes.
I agree. I really cringe when my MIL buys my daughter yet another anything-with-Dora-on-it. Sippy cups, fine. Sunglasses, sure. But why does my kid need to have a huge red muppet (who talks like a baby) plastered across her chest?!
My daughter does own a couple of shirts with princesses on them, but she has picked them out herself so I can't complain too much. However, I refuse to buy the outfits or the obnoxious items (really, a princess bike?) that are associated with character branding. My biggest pet peeve though is store branding. E does not need to be a walking billboard for Gap, Old Navy, or whatever store we shopped at. And I wish my MIL would realize this. That, and peace signs on kid's clothes are just obnoxious.
You are SO not in the minority on this one! I think there are a TON of us who hate the whole character thing. But I must admit that my girl does have princess undies and a Minnie Mouse blanket - because she REALLY wanted them. But no t-shirts.
I feel the same way! I don't buy any character things for my boys but both grandmas love it.
I hate it too. BB has a few Cars shirts his grandma has gotten him (and he loves Cars so I can't take them away) but I hate babies smothered in Tigger. Blech.
I thought I was anti character too BUT like other posters stated, the grandma's LOVE it. Evelyn has turned into a Disney fanatic soooo I've given in but it's been ok
I wouldn't call that an unpopular opinion. I'd call it fact.
Trying to find ANYTHING for a boy that doesn't have Cars 2 on it is like a mission impossible.
I won't buy them either. I let DH buy her a disney t-shirt when we were there and he seems to think that Star Wars Characters are exempt, but otherwise, we are generally a no-character house. She doesn't know them and doesn't really care. She is starting to recognize characters now and I'm sure begging for clothes is coming soon. Luckily she has no interest in princesses yet!
Good I'm glad I'm not the only one. Although, I will admit to some princess themed panties as well. And what's up with these character loving Grandma's? I swear when I was young my mother didn't try to dress me like a billboard for Disney.
I hate them too! There were a bunch on clearance at Target the other day and I skipped right over 'em. Plus my husband has a "NO PRINCESS" rule in our house (long story) so we'll see how long that lasts before my LO is picking out her own things. For now: I'm the boss ; ) And that's how I like it!
I don't love character themed clothes either, probably because there was a time when there was a McKids line at Sears that my poor little brother had to wear lol! I do however like when there are character themed clothes that have a retro feel like the boys tees at the Gap.

I think you would be surprised at just how popular your opinion really is!
You'll be surprised kids today are such fashionista and they don't fancy characters anymore. But prefer brands! ;)
