Toddler Bed

It's happening.  After Isabella keeps climbing out of her crib and we were planning on transitioning her from her crib to a bed in April anyway, we've decided to just do it now.  Plus she's been asking for a big girl bed just like the pig Olivia.

We've decided not to convert the crib because we'll (hopefully) need to be using it for an infant and I don't want to have to switch her twice.  So I have some questions and I'm hoping you have some answers:

1.  Recommend one for me!  Where did you get yours?  How much was it?  Was it a pain to put together?  What kind of mattress?  Bonus points for links!

2.  Did you buy a toddler bed or a twin bed?  Box spring or no?

3.  How was the switch?  Any tips.

4.  How do you keep them in their room?  Lock 'em in?  Put up a gate?

I think this is the last big transition we're going to have to undertake.  It'll be nice to be done with it.  Until we start it all over again.

I'm posting today over at my blog about moving Laura into her big girl bed! We went with a twin bed, as we had my childhood bedframe and my in-laws had a spare mattress/boxspring. Laura has been practically begging for a bed, and the transition has been good!

Yay for big girl beds! We got Leila's bed from potterybarnkids.com and it is PERFECTION. Here's the link:

We paid $399 for it (w/free shipping/no tax)a year ago. It is the perfect bed because 1) it's cute, 2) it's low to the ground and doesn't require a box spring so we only had to buy a mattress, 3) it is VERY well made and was SUPER easy to put together.

I posted about our transition to the big girl bed here (with pics of the bed):

Overall, it went pretty smoothly. The first couple of nights were tricky as she explored her new freedom of being able to get out of bed right after we put her down. But, we just kept laying her back down and eventually she learned to stay in her bed. It just takes a little work at first.

Good luck! Let me know if you have any more questions.

that's so awesome that she stayed in her crib this long!! We ended up converting our crib around 2 yrs old because she did escape once. Once number two comes along I think we'll get her a full size bed, one that she can grow into and use for years to come!

We went straight to twin bed. We have a gate at the top if our stairs if he fets out of his room. He only tried to leave a handful of times during nap but never at night. He just recently started leaving his room when he wakes up un the morning. Then he comes in oir room to ger us. Before he stayed in bed and called fir one of us.

Ww transitioned slowly. We got the bed in Aug. Let me olay in the room and stuff. Naps started in Oct and he was sleeping full time in November. We let him lead the way. He was the one ro tell us when he was ready to sleep there.

We went straight to a twin bed. We got a platform bed that is low to the ground now, but can be converted to raise it higher to put a trundle underneath (or even bunk) later. I don't know the brand or anything, but it came from a children's furniture store. We went with a pretty firm mattress since it would be similar to the crib mattress.

Our transition went smoothly at first and then we had some issues with her not sleeping, but it didn't take too long to get her back into the groove with some tweaks to how we handled it when she got out of bed. Hope it all goes well!

We switched my daughter right around the same time. She actually did really well! We moved her up to a twin bed and got her brand new pony bedding. She was so thrilled with her big girl bed, she's done great in it! She did want us to start leaving her bedroom door open after the switch, but she stays in bed until we come and get her in the morning. You can read about our switch here:

Hmm, I don't think it took the link--I'll try again: http://www.thriftyniftymommy.com/2012/01/childrens-bedding-boutique-review-and.html

Good luck with your switch!

With my son we bought a small toddler bed.

With my daughter, her crib converted into a bed.

The first couple of days were rough trying to keep them in bed but then they got it!

Good luck!
